Heroes of North East India Rs.695.00/-

The beautiful land of the 'Seven Sisters' is well-known for its richness of culture and heritage. In spite of their division into seven units due to administrative and other considerations, these north-eastern states have geographical, political, economical, social and cultural affinity. We find the presence of an overwhelming tribal population in all the seven states since wave after wave of migrants have been attracted by the enchanting beauty of hills and valleys. In spite of racial mixture among population, its history is full of myths and legends. Because of it being a distant and relatively inaccessible and mountainous part of the country, these tribal people almost remained isolated from the mainstream of Indian events till the beginning of the 19th century.

While going through the history of India, we come across heroes like Shivaji, Rani Laxmibai or Bhagat Singh but rarely does one come across a hero from: the North East. This book is the first attempt to bring to the fore the eminent personalities of the North East, who have led courageous lives for the betterment of the people of the region. The personalities have been taken from all the seven states i.e. Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura - described separately for each state. Here are heroic deeds of ordinary people who led extra- ... ordinary lives and prince and princesses who fought for their people. All of them have one thing in common - their love for the people and land.

The author had the opportunity to travel to various states and met people who could narrate a lot of history, especially at the Tawang Monastery and Lama Tashi. The library of the Counter Insurgency School, Eastern Command Library, National Library and other important libraries have provided invaluable literature on various personalities. Inclusion of folk tales of the region have greatly enhanced the utility of the book.

The book will be of immense value to the historians, social scientists, educationists, administrators and others who are anxious to know more and more about the region.
