The book contains profiles of eminent men and women and little known facets of their personality. They hail from world of politics, poetry and literature, films, culture, sports and other areas. they have been put together this volume and each portrait makes interesting reading.
Among the people written about are former President APJ Abdul Kalam, Devendra Dwivedy, who was never destined to take oath of office as Gujarat's Governor, George Fernandes, yesterday's table-turner who has lost his thunder, Jaswant Singh, who had to leave the BJP amidst controversy over his remarks on Jinnah and firebrand Mamta Banerjee and Mayawati, who still nurture an ambition to become the Prime Minister, Lalu Prasad Yadav, who introduced a new idiom into Indian politics and Marxist Harkishan Singh Surjeet, who always worked hard to bring different parties together but found his coalition arrangement simply collapse under the inherent internal contradictions.
The volume does not confine to the world of politics alone. Those who have contributed in making Indian music rich find prominent place. They include Bhimsen Joshi, Bismillah Khan and Lata Mangeshkar. Sports is represented by Kapil Dev, the captain of India's cricket team, who won the 1983 World Cup for the country.
