This book is a first for many reasons – it is the first honest and no-holds-barred autobiography of a soldier in the Pakistan Army. It is the first bare-all story of the history and development of the Army in Pakistan. Also, it is the first book to reveal some bitter truth about what happened on the other side during the 1965 and 1971 wars.
The author points out the excessive administrative and legal powers of senior officers and how they were misused. He provides the day-today going on between the senior officials and the Army officers, the power play at work, the ego clashes among the officers during the 1965 war and the 1971 Rajasthan operation and reveals how the Pakistan Army is not made of perfect soldiers but like other armies, it is one that reflects the society and culture as it has developed since the creation of Pakistan.
A lot has been previously written that is false and mere propaganda. The author’s views are hence acutely different as expressed in this daring book. A bold effort has been made to present the true story – which is reflective of reality and which may not appeal to the Pakistan Army and in the Pakistan Government.
