The Military Factory in Pakistan, by RSN Singh deals with how the military has hijacked all aspects of Pakistan's polity and the pernicious role it has played ill collusion with the religious extremists to wreak global havoc. As Gen. VP Malik, the former Chief of Army Staff, writes in the foreword, 'the five fundamentals of Pakistan's strategic thinking have been opposition to Indian hegemony, primacy of defence requirements, leaning on outside assistance to counter perceived threats from Indian hegemony, nuclear deterrence and identification with Islamic causes.'

RSN Singh has traced with admirable clarity the symbiotic relationship that exists between Pakistani military and the Islamists, which has reduced the country very nearly a failed state.

In the final reckoning the book lays are Pakistani fault lines and serves as a damning indictment of the country's military-intelligence nexus. The author fears hat Islamic militancy has already eaten so deeply into the country's vitals that it has practically reached the point of no-return. He concludes somberly, 'Under the prevailing political, security and economic scenario in Pakistan, any elected government will have to perform a miracle to reestablish the viability and vitality of the state. Should it fail, the army will be compelled to intervene to save the country from falling apart.'

"the author lists some disturbing conclusions from his study of Pakistan's history which need to be analysedThis is a well researched work. It has been written in a very simple language and is easy to understand. It will make an interesting reading for politicians, bureaucrats and military leaders to understand the psyche of Pakistan."
USI Journal

In this rare book, the author relies heavily upon Pakistani works, sources and perspectives in support of his arguments.

"A brilliant insight !"

Pakistan's politics, governance, institutional capacities, internal and external security and the nation-building process are at a critical juncture. The stance of the military, thus, would be a critical factor in determining the future course of Pakistan. Under the prevailing scenario in the country, any elected government would need to re-establish the viability and vitality of the state. Should it fail, the army would be compelled to re-intervene to save the country from falling apart.

For an objective and in-depth analysis, as to how Pakistan has arrived at this critical juncture, it is important to delve into the personalities and processes that have shaped the destiny of the country. The future of Pakistan is dependent on the flux and interplay of the internal and external processes and compulsions. This book, therefore, traces the military underpinnings in the political, geopolitical, strategic, economic, religious, sociological, and sectarian journey that Pakistan has made over the last 60 years.
