The author in 1984 was the Director General of Weapons and Equipment at Army Headquarters and was appointed the Chairman of the Committee which evaluated the various contending 155 mm guns to select the best for introduction into the army. He gives in detail the battles which were fought in Army Headquarters and the Ministry of Defence to decide which was the superior weapon. The Bofors gun was good, but not the best, and was selected much against the recommendations of his Committee.
The book deals with the last 15 tumultuous years of Indian history with particular reference to the selection of the Bofors gun and how its purchase let to the downfall of our political stability.
