Small terrorist episodes may not seem to present a serious problem. But they do If they continue to spread in widening circles, with greater publicity, more powerful weapons and a lax resolves, they are capable not only of injuring innocent victims, but also works towards disintegration of a nation.
The current and prevailing situation in India calls for a complete rethink on total internal national vision involving strategic perceptions and policies. Communal, parochial, regional and
secessionist forces have not only been allowed to seed but grow at a tremendous pace in such a large and diverse country. India, therefore needs leadership with very deliberate vision to bring the country back on rails of stability.
It is sad that terrorism in India has become part of its culture with no viable solution in sight. Not a day passes without an incident of
terrorism been reported from one part of the country or the other. What are the reasons? Whether India has hostile neighbours or, it is
lack of resolve to tackle the problems of the people on different fronts-political, social and economic? Situation in India is alarming
and requires a deep study to find an answer to these and many more questions.
The book is divided into various segments with main emphasis on terrorism in J&K, insurgency in the northeast and the left-wing
extremism. An analysis has been made to ascertain the role played by Pakistan and Bangladesh. What were the constituent factors for the rise in militancy, particularly in J&K, has been dealt with separately?
For the convenience of readers separate chapters have been allotted to different states, like, J&K, states of the northeast and the states affected by left-wing extremism. It is hoped readers will find the book
informative, educative and interesting that would help them to appreciate the problem in correct perspective.
