World War II was the bloodiest and farthest reaching military conflict in human history and forever changed how we view the world.
A strategically significant war was fought in the North African region. The opening phase of the war in Africa saw the fulfillment, by a small British armoured force, of the theory of armoured warfare which was of British conception and had been first demonstrated in practical trials by the Royal Tank Corps. The first proof in war of its decisive effect has been provided by the German armoured forces in Poland and France. But in Africa the British armoured forces had, and seized, their chance to show the decisiveness of the new style of warfare that they had initiated.
